Hallvard has also studied with many of the very best folk musicians in other parts of Norway. He has in this way got a serious education in fiddle music and the historical aspects connected to it from older professional fiddlers (folkmusicians). Bjørgum has received Spellmannprisen several times, and has worked with well known artists from across he world. Since the CD debut in 1979, he has released a great number of albums both as a solo artist and in collaboration with other artists. He is today among the most important artists in the genre of folk music, and is well renowned for his tireless work to bring folk music out to the people.
