Terje Boye Hansen’s musical education has been for the bassoon, teaching and conducting. In 1968, after his studies, he was engaged as a bassoon player by The Norwegian Opera, and held the position of principal since 1980. During this time he also conducted extensively in Norway and abroad. After a short time as freelance, he was in 1992 reengaged by The Norwegian Opera, this time as chief conductor for the touring department. Terje Boye Hansen’s repertoire includes more than 40 operas and operettas plus a great many ballets. For instance: Carmen, Hansel and Gretel, La Traviata, Rigoletto, La Boheme, Madam Butterfly, Tosca, The Magic flute, Cosi fan tutte, Figaro’s wedding, Don Giovanni, The Firebird, The Rite of Spring, Swan Lake, Romeo and Julie e.t.c. Terje Boye Hansen has also conducted a great number of symphony orchestras and has worked for radio and television. He has conducted in Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Italy, England and South-Afrika. In Norway he visits all the main orchestras. The last 10 years he has worked with old, forgotten Norwegian music. This interest has led to concerts and CD recordings. Among these are Hjalmar Borgstrøm’s two operas Thora paa Rimol and Der Fischer.Edvard Fliflet Bræin’s Anne Pedersdotter, Geirr Tveitt’s Jeppe and Egil Hovland’s Fange og fri is also on his repertoire of Norwegian operas.
