Trond H.F. Kverno (b. 1945) studied with Arild Sandvold and Conrad Baden at the Music Conservatory in Oslo, from which he graduated as an organist and precentor in 1967. During his many years as an organist and choir director, he has composed a great deal of music for use in the church service. Kverno is a senior lecturer at the Norwegian State Academy of Music, where he has taught sacred music and composition since the Academy was founded in 1973. As a member of the liturgy commission from 1974 to 1978, he has played a central role in developing a new liturgy for the Church of Norway. Kverno´s compositions show a strong interest in ealy sacred music. This does not, however, prevent him from employing modern techniques in his works, which reveal a constant fascination with new timbral effects and modes of expression.
