During his many years as an organist and choir director, he has composed a great deal of music for use in the church service. Kverno is a senior lecturer at the Norwegian State Academy of Music, where he has taught sacred music and composition since the Academy was founded in 1973. As a member of the liturgy commission from 1974 to 1978, he has played a central role in developing a new liturgy for the Church of Norway. Kverno´s compositions show a strong interest in ealy sacred music. This does not, however, prevent him from employing modern techniques in his works, which reveal a constant fascination with new timbral effects and modes of expression.
