Hans Björkroth
Biography
Hans Björkroth, born in Sweden, was the founder of "Broderfolkskonserten". Björkroth was brought up in a thriving folk music environment in Dalarna, and was given the honorary national title "riksspelman" (national fiddler) at the age of eighteen. He has been awarded first prize at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in Wales, one of the largest folk music competitions in the world. Björkroth is a violinist in the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra. He has performed solo, to critical acclaim, on the nyckelharpa (keyed fiddle) with ensembles including the Swedish Radio Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic, and the symphony orchestras of Stavanger and Norrköping. Björkroth has given the premier performance of works for nyckelharpa by several Norwegian composers, and he is committed to expanding the range and repertoire of the instrument both in baroque and contemporary music. Bjørkroth took the initiative to commission Lasse Thoresen's "Broderfolks concerto".
