Rolf Gupta
Biography
Conductor and composer Rolf Gupta is General Music Director of the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. He has been Chief Conductor of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra, and was Artistic Director of MAGMA2002 Berlin. Gupta's repertoire extends from baroque to contemporary works. He has collaborated with composers including Berio, Lindberg, Wallin, Nørgård, Henze and Benjamin. Gupta has worked with such orchestras and ensembles as RSO Frankfurt, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, BBC Symphony, Stuttgart Radio Symphony, Gothenburg Symphony, RSO Leipzig, Klangforum Wien, Rémix, and Ensemble InterContemporain.
In opera, Gupta has conducted a number of world premieres including Bernard Lang"s Der Alte vom Berge at the 2007 Schwetzingen Festival and Theater Basel. Other opera productions have included Die Zauberflöte for Frankfurt Opera and Grieg"s Peer Gynt at Valery Gergiev"s White Nights Festival. In 2006 Gupta was awarded the Norwegian Critics Prize for his interpretation of the Eroica with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. Gupta has recorded a number of CDs including Tango Ballet with Gidon Kremer and the Kremerata Baltica for Teldec. His recordings of Olav Anton Thommessen´s BullsEye (BIS) and Jon Øivind Ness's Low Jive (Simax) with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra were both awarded the Spellemannprisen (Norwegian Grammy).
