Terje Isungset, a key performer on over 40 CD recordings, has released the new solo album Igloo. The CD was launched during the world"s first ice festival, the Ice Festival #1 in Geilo 2006. The recording took place in 2004 at the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjarvi in Sweden, in an igloo with all instruments made of ice! Isungset invited vocalist Sidsel Endresen to join him and together they have created a series of intense and beautiful soundscapes. Isungset, pioneer and avant-gardist, has musical roots in jazz, improvisation and folk music. He has long experience of working with visual media in stage and dance productions. He is most widely known for his energetic and innovative percussion playing, although he also uses jews" harps and his voice in his music - and he is a composer as well. Isungset finds the materials for his instruments outside in their natural environment, and the "ice music" has developed as a result of making instruments from ice taken from frozen lakes. - The sound of ice is unique, says Isungset, warm and very beautiful. After an ice concert the instruments are returned to their natural environment, where they belong. Igloo was nominated to Spellemannprisen (the Norwegian Grammy) 2006.
