A different breed of pianist altogether, Christian Ihle Hadland has made his mark with an exceptional artistic and pianistic gift. His solo debut on CD celebrates two of the most outstanding poetic and virtuoso composers of 17th century piano music: Chopin and Schumann.
Carefully shaped and sustained melodic lines, dazzling celestial passagework, and the softest chords imaginable. Christian"s approach to the music is refreshingly open, honest and vulnerable - treasured qualities more often heard in musicians from days gone by.
Transcendence in the romantic piano writing
A number of daring composer-pianists, above all Liszt, Chopin and Schumann, vastly extended the boundaries of piano technique. Even works apparently intended for the development of the player"s technical capacities, such as keyboard studies, revealed artistic qualities and expressive content that became their primary rather than secondary purpose.
Perhaps not too well known?
In selecting the repertoire for his debut album, Christian Ihle Hadland wanted to focus on works by Chopin and Schumann that may not be in the constant spotlight, but still have tremendous qualities. Some of the most elegant melodies of Chopin can be found in his Impromptus. The Waldszenen of Schumann explore a profound strain of German romanticism, a fantasy-world of inns and hunters, lonely flowers, prophetic birds, shadowed valleys and haunted thickets.

“- His debut solo recording [...] has stood out even in this anniversary year's competitive field. His Chopin has a liquid quality; clearly defined but with an elasticity that points towards some of the all-time pianistic greats. [Andrew Mellor / Classic FM Magazine Hot Property October 2010]“
