Marc Bonilla was born July 3, 1955 in Contra Costa, California, and currently lives in Los Angeles. He works as a guitarist and composer, and has produced, recorded and performed with several artists including Ronnie Montrose, Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple, Eddie Jobson of UK and Jethro Tull, Paul Rodgers, Sammy Hagar, Edgar Winter, Joe Perry, Rob Halford, Slash, Peter Frampton, and David Coverdale. As a solo artist, he has released two critically acclaimed guitar instrumental albums for Reprise: “EE Ticket” and “American Matador”, and a third: “Celluloid Debris” is expected in 2018.
Marc has also composed and performed for numerous television shows and major motion pictures since the early 90s, including Total Recall, Terminal Velocity, ER, The Postman, The PJ’s, The Replacements, The Scorpion King, Spy Kids, Bruce Almighty, Kid Notorious, Spiderman 2, Mad Money, Iron Man 2, Green Lantern, The Bourne Legacy, and Justified, collaborating with such notables as James Newton Howard, John Debney, Joel McNeely and Snuffy Walden, receiving an Emmy award nomination in 2001 for his score for David Milch’s Big Apple.
Marc recently wrapped the sixth and final season composing and performing for the hit television show, Justified, along with Toto keyboardist, Steve Porcaro and also served as the composer for Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.
He has also released two albums, Sacred Ground and Full Circle, with California Transit Authority featuring Chicago’s R&R Hall Of Fame drummer and co-founder, Danny Seraphine, Bill Champlin and lead singers, Larry Braggs and The Voice’s Will Champlin.
Marc worked with Keith Emerson already in 1988, pieces that were released on Changing States in 1995 and Hammer It Out in 2005. He played with Emerson, Ronnie Montrose and Glenn Hughes in 1998 (Boys Club – Live in California, released 2009), and joined the Keith Emerson Band in 2006, releasing a studio album in 2008 and a live album in 2011. In 2011 and 2012 he worked with Emerson and Terje Mikkelsen on the Three Fates Project, releasing both the eponymous CD and the LP Tarkus Concertante (Simax Classics PSLP 1321) in 2012.
After Emerson’s death Marc was the driving force behind the tribute concert in Los Angeles in 2016, where also Rachel Flowers and Terje Mikkelsen participated, and he is working on an official DVD from the concert. He also performed along with Mikkelsen and Rachel Flowers at the Keith Emerson Tribute Concert in Birmingham in 2017, where also Ethan Emerson performed.
